About Me

I'm Ved Chikarmane, a student at the University of Victoria studying computer science and psychology. I spend most of my time building software and learning how modern systems work.

I have been hearing impaired my whole life. That has given me an unusual relationship with sound, language, and the technology we use every day. Speech therapy was a regular part of my weekly routine growing up. I noticed early that many of the tools designed to help people were outdated, expensive, or simply difficult to access.

Because of this, I began advocating for people with hearing loss and raising awareness about accessibility and communication technology. I have spoken publicly about these issues, including giving a TED talk about my experiences growing up hearing impaired and the importance of better tools and support.

That experience did not make me frustrated. It made me curious. Over time that curiosity turned into a desire to understand technology deeply and build better systems.

Right now I spend a lot of time learning how modern AI systems work and how to use them effectively. I am trying to become AI native. That means understanding how to work with language models, automation tools, and modern developer workflows so I can build useful systems faster and more intelligently.

I care about writing clean code, understanding systems deeply, and building things that work well for real people rather than just looking impressive in demos.

This site is also a place where I occasionally share things outside of technology. Photography is one of those hobbies. I shoot with a Canon EOS R50 and enjoy capturing cities, architecture, and small moments that most people walk past.

I am also a big sports fan. Formula 1 weekends usually mean cheering for Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red, and during the IPL you will certainly find me supporting Royal Challengers Bangalore.
